Artist Spotlight + Katrina and The Krewe of KOLOSSOS

3D Virtual Tour of the KOLOSSOS Bike Zoo

Katrina Brees has been producing Carnival parades since 2004, but her Bike Zoo brings KOLOSSOS (www.kolossos.org) new purpose to the party. The impressive fleet of 20 (and growing) paper mache, tricycle powered animals are a favorite of parade goers. The diverse collection of beautifully crafted animals are each developed to entertain the crowd and bring the fun of the zoo, to you. Katrina and the KOLOSSOS artists transform trash into functional sculptures. Made from salvaged tricycles, newspaper, scrap metal and random plastic packaging, each mini float is an act of environmentalism.

Lately, the krewe has focused on illuminating the beauty of threatened and endangered species in an effort to raise the consciousness of their audience.  Riders enjoy a larger-than-life experience interacting with the audience as if their carousel has let loose the whimsical animals down the street.

The Krewe of Kolossos art bikes will be featured in the Krewe of Muses and Krewe of Tucks parades this Carnival.
