It’s a busy time of year for everyone and Where Y’Artists are no exception! Our artists are involved in all kinds of events and markets this month, from Luna Fete to Art Basel. We’ve put together a list of all the exciting art world happenings where you can find our Y’Artists. Many of the events have live music, local food and drinks, and fun for the whole family. Don’t forget to tell ’em we sent ya!
Art Basel, the world’s premier contemporary art show, is taking over Miami Beach this weekend. The whole city gets involved, with galleries all over participating and lots of entertaining events to make sure every visitor will find something to their liking. It’s a real honor for our artists to have earned a spot in Art Basel. Where Y’Artists Nurhan Gokturk and Garrett Haab will be exhibiting at Exposure Gallery, just a short walk from the main Art Basel exhibition space.
It’s been hard to miss the excitement of LUNA Fete this week, especially with the beautiful installation by Jen Lewin, The Pool, lighting up Lafayette Square. LUNA Fete is put on by Arts Council New Orleans. The LUNA stands for Light Up NOLA Art and is intended to bring attention to and make connections within the New Orleans art scene. There will be a pop-up art market every night from Thursday, December 3 to Saturday, December 5 from 6pm to 9pm to accompany the installation at the square. Dec 5: Local Art Trunk Show
Twelve local artists in the Mid-City neighborhood are putting on a trunk show from 10am to 5:30pm on Saturday, December 5. It will take place in three houses within a one block radius of each other, and is a great way to do all of your holiday shopping in one place. Look for paintings by Where Y’Artist Hayley Gaberlavage while you’re there.
Dec 5+19: Little Flea NOLA
This Saturday, December 5th and next Saturday, December 19th, Little Flea NOLA is back again with a holiday edition at Sophie B. Wright Park from 12pm to 5pm. Shop handmade work from Jennifer Rowe + Caitlin Waugh as well as several other local artists, vintage vendors, and more.
Dec 5+6: Ridgewalker Glass Holiday Sale
This weekend Ridgewalker Glass will be having a holiday sale in the front gallery of their house at 2818 N. Rampart St. The sale will take place Saturday, December 5 & Sunday, December 6 from 10am to 6pm. There will be lots of great New Orleans artwork, as well as snacks and refreshments.
Don’t let the fun end after Luna Fete is over on December 5th. Continue the celebration at Steve Martin Fine Art for the EMERGE art show from 6pm to 9pm. Find works by Where Y’artist Bellavia and many more New Orleans artists.
In conjunction with PhotoNOLA, Where Y’Artist Muffin Bernstein will be having a show from Tuesday, December 8 to Thursday, December 27 at Algiers Regional Library entitled Silent Spring. The show is meant to raise awareness about the dying bee population. The use of pesticides is killing off thousands of bees, and they are a vital part of our ecosystem. Without bees, flowers would not be able to pollinate. Go see the show to get an up-close look at these beautiful insects.
The Art Garden + Floating Gallery, a new outdoor gallery, artist run space is opening its doors on Thursday, December 10 from 6pm to 10pm at 613 Frenchmen Street. Where Y’artist Kate Hanrahan alongside local artist Heather Jean are exhibiting their works in the Painters Showcase.
Amy Harvie, Alex Harvie, and TJ Black are doing two art shows this month: one in Baton Rouge and another in New Orleans. The first is on Friday, December 11 from 6pm to 10pm at The Cove in Baton Rouge, and the second is the following Friday, December 18 from 6pm to 10pm at Southern Arch in New Orleans. All three artists will be showing new work.
In honor of the merry demon, Krampus, join in on the terrifying fun Saturday, December 12 in Gasa Gasa’s Courtyard at the KRAMPUSNACHT art market! Celebrate from 6pm to 12pm with a slew of local artists including our own – Caitlin Waugh + Jeremy Paten. We also heard Colin Lake will be putting on a pretty great show inside.
Bergeron Woodworks is doing a series of markets in the South throughout the month of December. The New Orleans show will take place Saturday, December 12 & Sunday, December 13 as a part of the Preservation Resource Center’s 40th Annual Holiday Home Tour. Take a tour of eight historic Garden District homes, then visit the headquarters for delicious local food and unique local art.
Where Y’Artist Kristin Malone of Home Malone will be leading a fun holiday painting class at Le Meridien New Orleans. Guests receive two glasses of sparkling wine to sip on while they paint a pre-made wood cut-out of a New Orleans shotgun house and enjoy live music in the Palm Court. The class will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 6pm to 8:30pm.
